Spatial Variability of Glaciochemistry along a Transect from Zhongshan Station to LGB69, Antarctica

چکیده

The spatial glaciochemical variability of snow samples collected along a transect from Zhongshan Station to Lambert Glacier Basin 69 (LGB69) in Antarctica was investigated. Sea-salt ion concentrations exponentially decreased with increasing distance the coast and/or altitude. observed high sea-salt within 20.6 km may be related preferential wet or dry deposition aerosols. Methanesulfonic acid (MSA), non-sea-salt sulfate (nssSO42−), and calcium (Ca2+) transect. mean MSA/nssSO42− value surface (0.34 ± 0.08) indicates that coastal sea areas are their likely source regions. Ca2+ (nssCa2+)/Ca2+ percentages LGB69 pit reveal continental dust is primary source. δD δ18O values inland. variation deuterium excess (d-excess) stable d-excess two were low similar, which moisture region between area. These results distribution patterns sources ions isotopes, as well factors influence composition provide important insight for further studies ice cores drilled Antarctic

Monitoring atmospheric nitrous oxide background concentrations at Zhongshan Station, east Antarctica.

At present, continuous observation data for atmospheric nitrous oxide (N2O) concentrations are still lacking, especially in east Antarctica. In this paper, nitrous oxide background concentrations were measured at Zhongshan Station (69°22'25″S, 76°22'14″E), east Antarctica during the period of 2008-2012, and their interannual and seasonal characteristics were analyzed and discussed. The mean N2O...

Force Budget: Ii. Application to Two-dimensional Flow along Byrd Station Strain Network, Antarctica

Resistive stresses and velocities at depth are calculated along the Byrd Station Strain Network, Antarctica, using field data. There are found to be large longitudinal variations in basal drag and this result is little affected by errors in the input data or by uncertainties in the constitutive relation for ice. Basal drag varies by a factor of about 2 along the strain network, and is usually e...

A coastal transect of McMurdo Dry Valleys snow and firn: marine and terrestrial influences on glaciochemistry

Samples of snow and firn from accumulation zones on Clark Glacier, Commonwealth Glacier, Blue Glacier and Victoria Upper Glacier in the McMurdo Dry Valleys (77–788S and 161– 1648E), Antarctica, are evaluated chemically and isotopically to determine the relative importance of local (site-specific) factors versus regional-scale influences in defining glaciochemistry. Spatial variation in snow an...
